I had this same issue when I updated to iOS 6.1.3 on my 4S about a week and a half ago. After contacting Apple, doing live chat, and endless hours of searching on Google for other people experiencing same problem and a solution I finally came across one of those crazy remedies to try at home. After reading the reasoning behind

Why and how it actually made perfect sense. It is a hardware issue the temperature reading internally are all out of wack, but powering your phone completely off, facing down point a hair dryer on its highest setting and point along the side with head phone jack and around that upper corner for about three mins, let phone cool down and power on (a little warmth to the phone while turning it back on wont hurt anything, let me know if this helps, if so spread the word!!

I use this steps to warm up my iphone 4s:

-start to capture video with flash light on.

-put the iphone into a small box (in my case, i put my iphone into my desk drawer)

-after about 5-10 minutes the flash light will automatically turned off with warning message about the temperature.

-then reset your network setting

-voila, it works on my iphone.

Same story here .. Month old new Iphone 4s .. greyed out Wifi last week ;(

Tried all the possible solutions (except hairdryer)

No results !

Found a solution .. (still working 24 hours later)

Guess it's got something to do with condense ..

Steps I took :

1) Shut down iphone

2) Cover your device with rice (box or bag) (this takes all possible moist out your device) for the night (6-8 hours)

3) Restart your iphone

In my case .. WIFI is back alive .. now since 24 hours so far ;)

Hope this help others too !!!

My WIFI on 2.4GHZ has been random for about six months with the IPHONE 4S. It works fine for a while, then starts to get all glitchy and fails to connect. Thought it was the router, but 5GHZ works fine. Only the IPHONE has the problem.

Have read of others having random WIFI failures. Then read that there is a fix. Apple will try heating up the WIFI chip soldered connections near the earphone side of the motherboard where the WIFI chip is installed. Point is that Apple Genious Bar has this as a known issue, and they should take you seriously. there should be no questioning of your settings, nor should there be attempts to adjust settings. Not sure if Apple Genious Bar has some kind of test for the IPHONE 4S wifi signal strength, but will find out tonight when I visit them.

Others mention they did that themselves with a heat gun or a hair dryer. somehow the expansion of the metal seems to fix the issue.

Am trying this fix mentioned here. will also try putting the IPHONE 4S in the freezer. Either way am going to break it perminant or fix it perminant. My situation never had the GREYED OUT wifi connection, just random failures.

fixed the issue with WIFI problems I have had for several months. Replaced IPHONE 4s at Apple Store. What I found is that if you do a SPEEDTEST.NET check you might find your internet speed over WIFI pulsing. Goes up and down on my faulty iphone. Make sure you test it at the least traffic point of the day. On the fixed IPHONE it is rock steady with the speed.
