Q: Can't open my project after FCP X 10.0.7 crash

Can't open my project after FCP X 10.0.7 crash. Backup file is missing, Autosave Vault too. Pro Maintenance Tools does not fix the problem. The event and media are ok. I have crash log and CurrentVersion.fcpproject. Please help, it's very big project.

Final Cut Pro X, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

There is no Auto Save Vault in Final CutPro X. Are you working in FCP 7 or an earlier version?

If it is FCPX and you're missing the Backups folder, had you moved anything in the Finder after the crash?

I have both FCP 7 and X. After the crash I have deleted all the Render Files and installed FCP X 10.0.8 to open the project with it but it doesn't work. I can open the event but the project makes the weel spinning and the program can't start.

When I open CurrentVersion.fcpproject with TextEdit it seems really bad, some parts of the code seems corrupted   One week of hard work is there.

And if you navigate in the Finder to Final Cut Projects folder and open your project folder, can you confirm there is no folder named Buckups? Did you delete render files from within FCP or in the Finder? If that was done in FCP, there should have been no impact on the files in Backups.

I wish the Backups folder was there, but it isn't.

I deleted Renders in the Finder and the Backups folder wasn't there that moment.

And you know, I open the Projects folder and I see that none of my projects has Backups folder inside...

The only thing that comes to mind at this point is to do a Spotlight search on your system with the search term, Backups. Perhaps it was inadvertently moved into a new folder.

Good luck in tracking it down.

PS, Going forward, it's best to delete project and render files from within the FCP app.
