Mar 22, 2014 12:43 PM in response to barbara424by Mystveous,It happened to me today and upon reading the post and solutions, I tried it all with my Otter box cover on to no eval, then removed it and smacked it on my knee a bunch of times, tried the twist method then tried to smack it on my knee again around the headphone jack area too, still nothing but I can see a little bit of light coming through when I hit it in that area. Still nothing. I am hoping someone else has another trick. How do you do a hard reset if you can without the screen being on?

Apr 3, 2014 1:07 PM in response to barbara424by pugy,I am amazed! It worked for me too!!!!! At first I thought it must be some kind of joke. Then I looked at the many, many posts and thought that maybe, just maybe, it was for real.
It worked at once ! I knocked it on my knee, square in the center, on the back side. It came back to life! I had tried everything, including completely restoring the thing from iTunes.
I think Apple should look into this. It's too bizarre. I just wonder how many people gave up on their iPads and went to buy another one (I nearly did this myself) or spend heaps of money to have it "fixed" at an Apple store...
Thanks!

Apr 19, 2014 11:14 PM in response to Riley stewartby RaoAppis,You made my day, dude! I had just visited the Apple store regarding this issue and they said the only way was to swap the iPad with a new model, by buying it for an exchange rate of $250. I was oh-so-heart-broken and then came across your post. Couple of kneeling thuds on the ipad and all was well! Thank you so much!!

May 3, 2014 8:28 PM in response to barbara424by gautam119,The on/off button and home button simultaneous press and hold woke up the ipad after a complete black screen for three days. Was about to do the kneebang technique but came across this maneuver and it worked. Please go to the following link before you bang the ipad

May 22, 2014 3:02 PM in response to barbara424by bizpat,I concur. I tried all the "official" methods to get black screen fixed. I could hear Siri asking what I wanted to do, I could see iPad in iTunes, it was at 100% memory. I was out of options when I found this thread. And it really did work. Thank you Riley!

Jun 8, 2014 8:52 AM in response to Mystveousby GeorgiaJoe,Thank you guys for your help. My 8-year-old son dropped his iPad today, the screen went black. I tried putting power plug in/out, I heard the charging tone but no changes. I tried rebooting, screen went black after 10 seconds of pushing the two buttons, but then it turned itself right back on again to show a black screen. Finally I found your posts online and, miraculously, this was the answer. I held it at diagonally opposing ends, and twisted the thing GENTLY once or twice in each direction, and the screen popped right back to life. Amazing. We're pretty far from any repair shops or anything right now, my son's world was shattered with his iPad, peace and harmony are now restored, all is well with the world again. Thank you guys!!

Jun 17, 2014 3:51 PM in response to barbara424by Robb Walters,Brilliant!
Although I found a hard rap upon the back (precisely upon the Apple logo) to be more effective then my knee (ouch!), it worked instantly as well. After monkeying with it for weeks, I'd abandoned all hope until finding this post.
Many thanks!!
Robb
