this warning keeps flashing on my screen. the only way to make it stop is to turn off my firewall completely in preferences which doesn't seem safe.
it's not a typical warning that pops up and lets you click "deny" or "allow" instead it just flashed for a milisecond. It's some sort of weird gltich.
How can I stop it?

This is, unfortunately, a common problem with Java right now. The solution is to turn off your firewall, which is actually perfectly safe in almost all cases. See Do I need a firewall?.
Also, regarding Java, be sure to keep it turned off in your web browser. See:
i have the same problem, it's so annoying, i hope someone can fix this, and i don't want to turn off my firewall.
Mke sure you have updated to the latest version of Java; http://www.java.com/en/download/faq/java_mac.xml
System Preferences/Security & Privacy - unlock and click the Firewall Options button. Using the + sign see if you can add it.
