Disappearing Calendar notifications

I use the Calendar app to remind me of things in addition to appointments. I suppose I could use the Reminders app, but it appears to me to be reduntant to what Calendar can do, but if someone reads this and says something to the contrary, I'd be interested.

My problem is this. All events (with alarms) in my Calendar will appear in the notifications on the upper right. Now, I don't sit at my computer all day long, so when I get back to my computer, I like seeing what notifications (alarms) from Calendar I missed. Unfortunately, it appears that some (but not all) of my calendar alarms disappear after what I think is an hour. And they don't show up in the notifications column that I can make appear with the two-finger swipe. So, I've been missing reminders to make phone calls, or to buy a gift or whatever. But, it doesn't happen all the time. Some appointments stick on the upper right for hours. Some don't. I can't figure out what I'm doing right or wrong. But whatever I'm doing, how do I make the notifications (just for Calendar) stick until I close?

By the way, Reminders does it all the time, but again, it seems like a redundant app. I have Calendar set for "Alerts" in the notification center which clearly states that "Alerts stay on screen until dismissed." This is frustrating.

Absolutely using alerts. Like I said, some notifications stick at the top for hours and hours until I dismiss them. It's about half that don't. I've tried everything like eliminating the repeating event, and setting it up again.

I wish someone had a solution. I'm missing a lot of stuff when I come back to my computer. Another easier solution would be to set up snooze for some other amount of time (rather than just a fixed 5 minutes). Then when I see the same notification on my iPhone or iPad, I can just snooze it. But I can't.

I think you probably know what you are doing, but just to be certain, when you say alerts are you talking about calendar alerts or are you talking about notification centre alerts for calendar. Also do you have a limit on recent items.

FWIW, I find the inability to change the snooze time very annoying, I couldn't really turn notification centre off, but sometimes on full screen software like FCPX it's just mind blowingly annoying.

Do not assume I know what I'm doing. 😀

I'm talking about calendar alerts, but, and here's where I'm not sure what's going on, I just presumed the alerts are showing up in the notifications center. Just to be honest, I'm annoyed at what Apple has done with the calendar since Mountain Lion showed up, and yes, I've given them my feelings about it in a way that most people can't.

Anyways, I don't think there's anything in the Calendar app preferences to change this, only in the Notifications preferences in the System Preferences.

Well, I've tried everything to make this work. I've noticed that all day events with alarms, the notification sticks until I dismiss it (at least for a day or so, eventually I had to dismiss it so I could access that part of the screen). Nothing I've done makes the regular appoints stick in the notifications for anything more than an hour. This isn't very useful to me.

Well, if anyone has a good idea on fixing Calendar I'm all ears or eyes.

This is probably the most annoying change with Mountain Lion. I have talked to AppleCare several times and nothing has helped. They are now suggesting an erase/install, which is a huge amount of work to reconfigure my system and I have low confidence that it will fix it.

I have them set to "Alerts" not "Banners". This has been checke numerous times.

I have missed several critical task due to this failure. So in the case, a workflow that I have relied upon a computer for is hurting me.

One bright side: when I first started reporting this, nobody else had reported it and I felt alone. But now I see lots of people reporting the same issue. For me it started occurring as soon as I bought a new iMac. It never happened on my old iMac, both with Mountain Lion.

Here is a summary of the problems:

- Calendar is set to "Alerts" in System Preferences > Notification

- Have set to show either 5 or 20 recent items just to make sure that is not an issue;

- Alerts will disappear randomly as reported by others above

- Some alerts never show up at all

- When serveral alerts are showing, often dismissing one of them will dismiss several of them; again this seems to occur randomly

Here's what I did that has seemingly solved the problem for me. YMMV. (knocking on wood)

I went into system preference -> notifications and made sure calendar was on alerts (it was already)

Then, I went into the calendar app, and under preferences changed the alerts function so that alerts would pop up 5 mins before the event. I don't know why that worked, but now they don't disappear AND I get reminded at 15, 10, and 5 minute intervals. So, that's good enough for me
