Why are my texts and contacts not transferring from my iphone 4 to my new iphone5?

hi folks,

I just got my new iphone 5: I backed up my iphone 4, with most up to date iTunes software on my laptop. I then plugged in my new iphone 5, and restored from back up, but my texts, contacts and diary have not transferred over!!!!!! Tried everything suggested on google-ing this!
