Light comes on but then nothing else. I was listening today with the hold button

I was out in the yard working.. I had the IPod nano in my pocket the screen went out but the music was still playing, the minute I took my head phones out the screen went blank and I have no music. It has been plugged in for almost 3 hours now and still won't start
