Old contacts showing up on my phone when I'm composing a text message. HELP

So I have a couple of new numbers for existing contacts and I have some contacts deleted but every time I'm composing a text message where it says To: If I type a name all the other numbers I once had for that contact would suddenly show up. It's annoying because sometimes I don't know what number to choose. When I go to the contact and try to see if its that I have the number stored it shows that I don't. Also when I'm composing a text message and for example I'm going to choose a contact with the letter "a" all the contacts that I once had would show up as an option. Why is this happening someone help????? It's beyond annoying!! I've already tried deleting my iCloud from my phone cause I thought that was the problem but it isn't. Help please.
