Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT
Newly purchased mac mini (i7). Thunderbolt to VGA adaptor for VGA display. Optimum resolution not offered in system prefs. Monitor should be 1600 x 1200, all I'm seeing is a max of 1400 x 1050. What's going on – any info anyone?

The resolution available with the Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter is 1920 x 1200. VGA displays that use higher refresh rates (such as 85 Hz) at resolutions of 1600 x 1200 or greater may not generate video properly until you lower the refresh rate.

Lowered the refresh rate to 60 Hertz, only other option is 56 Hz (which is greyed out).
Still hasn't resolved the issue. Also did a restart without success.

What monitor/resolution do you have?
I have the 2012 i5 and am using an Asus 1920 x 1080 monitor wit MDP>VGA adopter. Have both the Best for display Scaled options. When I select Scaled I have options of 1920 x 1080 and lesser resolutions. I only have 60 Hertz, the other frequencies are grayed out

I'm using an NEC MultiSync LCD 2170NX. When I choose Scaled the max I can select is 1400 x 1050, still not showing the 1600 x 1200. Didn't have any issues on my G5 PowerPC. Had a look to see if I could find any drivers that may solve the problem but to no avail so far...
That monitor has DVI input, use a DVI adapter & cable instead. It will work much better.
Problem solved 'sean' – thank you! Full diplay res now available. I've had the display for so many years now, that I haven't even looked at the available ports. Schoolboy error!! ;0/ BIG thanks one again, frustration gone. Cheers!
If you go into system preference : Display : Choose scaled . once you see the different rez then you clicked Scaled while holding options and thast should provided all rezlotuions
Hey! Sorry for digging up an old topic, but are there any other work arounds for monitors that only support VGA? I'm using a monitor that is very similar to the NEC FP2141SB-BK. My monitor is a HP P1230.
I am having the same issues even when using a TB-->VGA cable. I'm trying to maximize the resolution settings with my set up to be 2048x1536, which is less than the maximum resolution with TB @ 2560x1600. I am currently limited to 1920x1080.
I am currently using a new Mac Mini. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
