How do I look back at entries on ical from last year?
I am using icloud to sync ical amongst phone, desk and pad. I cannot look back at previous entries made last year. How can I recover this information and stop it from delecting itself?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. If you are trying to see past events, all iOS devices typically have a limitation of how far they sync back by default. To make the change, navigate on the device to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars. Then scroll down to the Calendars settings, and there will be a sync option and it will show how far back it syncs. You can make the change there
This was in the user guide the iOS devices, they can access from the Safari app. If you check your bookmarks in Safari there will be a guide that you can navigate for more helpful tips.
