App Store not updating software -- timing out

I'm working on a just-purchased iMac with 10.8 installed, and noticing a problem updating software through the App Store.

I know that there is an iTunes update available to download, for instance, but when I try to do so the system is directing me to update through the app store, and the app store is timing out while it searches for the update. This has happened since I've had the new computer, so for about a week or so.

Anyone know if this is an internal Apple App Store issue, or is there something I can do on my end? Anyone else having this problem?

I bought a used system so I don't have any OS installation disks.

Is there a way to go back to the "Software Update" software used by the older OS?

I upgraded to 10.8.3, hoping that would solve the issue, but no dice.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

App Store Can’t Update Purchases

This has worked for some people.

- Sign out of the App Store (in the Store menu)

- Quit the App Store

- In Finder - Go>Go to folder... (or Apple-shift-G)

- Paste in the following "~/Library/Caches/ "

- It will take you to a folder. Delete com.apple.appstore

- Launch the App Store. Sign in.

Try contacting App Store support using the Contact us link in App Store Support.

An update: I was told to contact the App Store customer support to see if the problem was that the previous owner of the computer had an account that was somehow still linked to the computer. However, they said it was most definitely not a conflict with the previous owner's account.

Any other ideas? I'm just resigned to live with it... It's really only annoying in that I'll have to manually do my updates and, of course, knowing that a system which has very few big hiccups is having one that I will have to live with.
