Keynote 08 changing Font color

I recently installed Keynote 08. When I open a new presentation template I am unable to see the text while I am creating the slides. It appears the text is white on white or with some of the other templates so faint I can't see what I am writing.

In addition when I import a picture the colors are all off, regardless of the template used.
