Apple TVI believe that message can sometimes be a sign of a corrupt library file, unless of course you've tried to downgrade to an older build of iTunes. Restore it as described in this post.

May 11, 2013 3:10 PM in response to turingtest2by JanefromMountainState,★HelpfulI tried the suggestion about the corrupt library file and copying a previous itunes library into the itunes directory and renaming it to be the primary library. This did not fix my problem. I am worried that when I uninstalled iTunes as the software suggested I do that I may have deleted too much. Thanks for the try!

May 11, 2013 3:53 PM in response to JanefromMountainStateby JanefromMountainState,After trying out the library file swapout, I initiated the apple software update application. Even though I had tried to install the version I had installed prior to the uninstall, the result was that I needed to update iTunes and Quicktime. So I did that, rebooted, and low and behold, iTunes started without error. I performed a media backup so it was only the iTunes and quicktime applications I was worried about. Perhaps the corrupt library repair was the real problem solver but I couldn't tell. Thanks for the help!!
