phone number with extension

Maybe I am doing something wrong.

But if I have a contact 555-555-5555,555

If that number calls me it is unknown and if I call that number. It also shows up as unknown.

Now, if I am driving down the road use voice to call that number, it doesn't include the extension.

If I am driving and the last number I dialed was the above number with extension, when I ask to redial it will not unclude the exension.

1. This should be basic phone operation

2. It is dangerous because now I have to dial the extension while driving or change the number to wait instead of pause 555-555-5555;555 which means I still have to touch the phone. Both solutions are currently against the law and subject to fines.

A couple of things that I can tell you. Caller ID does not send extension numbers, that is why you are not seeing the caller's name from your contact list.

As far as dialing the extension number, it may take more than the single pause that you have entered in there to get the extension to connect. After the phone dials the number, I would assume there has to be a period of time before the call connects, and possibly another period before you can dial the extension. You may have to experiment with how many pauses you have to enter in the number to accomplish the extension dialing.

Close but not quite.

Caller ID sends the 10 digit number 555-555-5555 why doesn't the iPhone understand that 555-555-5555 = my contact with 555-555-5555;555 and tell me that it is this person calling me ?

I understand the difference between Wait and Pause and I would adjust accordingly more pause if the automated system doesn't pick up right away.

The reason why Wait is a better option is becuase after the number is dialed, you now get another button to dial the extension. A single click of a touch screen is better while driving than hitting number pad then dialing 555.

The phone knows I just dialed my contact with an extension. But why does it show up as 555-555-5555 instead of contact name(work) in recent calls ?

My understanding of how the iPhone displays a caller's number is based on an exact match between the Caller ID and the contact listing, and since the contact listing contains the extension number, then it doesn't match.

Someone else with more knowledge on the subject that I have may have a better explanation, sorry.

Funny though is this use to work perfectly with IOS 5, then 5.1, but never worked again after that. It should be simple and apart of normal operation. If Android and My simple LG Shine could do it, there is no reason an iPhone can't.

It is pretty frustrating, I can't be the only having the same issue ?

Calling an actual Apple Support Person, please respond.
