Q: The printer is not connected

When I try to print the print queue says   Printing - Unable to find printer. How do I get the printer to be recognized. Everything is connected properly and the printer has been added correctly in system preferences.

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3)

So my Apple Extreme router can assign an IP address to the printer, but nothing else on the network can reach that IP address.

Then it would be good to check what address the Extreme thinks it has given. Via the Airport Utility, if you click on the Extreme, a pop-up appears showing what wireless clients are connect and what IP addresses they are using. I wonder if a similar menu is shown for wired clients? If yes, then it is one way to confirm what address the MF has been assigned, which at this stage appears to be different to the one you are seeing via its own menu.

The AP utility doesn't show wired clients. However, I can see IP address of wireless clients that surround the 10.0.1.7 that the MF claims to have.

That's a shame about the Ethernet clients not showing.

What model MF do you have? I want to check the service manual for possible causes and other options.

I did a google search for a full factory reset and found a description of a lower lever reset - Menu -> # (go into Service Mode) -> arrow to #6 Clear Data

I cleared every option. Power cycled the printer. Entered my subnet and gateway address. The printer still pulled the 10.0.1.7 from the router. I was able to bring up the internal browser on the printer immediately, and it installed with no problems.

I can print wirelessly from my MBP and Windows laptops, and the MacPro.

I appreciate the time you spent trying to figure this out! What a pain in the @$$ this has been.

The model is MF4370dn. There's nothing worthwhile in the way of manuals for this printer used in a Mac environment.

Good to read that you got it working. BTW - When you have the printer set to DHCP you dont have to manually enter the subnet mask and gateway address, These will be provided by the router (Extreme).

And I was referring to the service manauls which I have access to. I was going to look at doing something similar via service mode. But you found that info anyway - god bless the Internet - so that saves me the trouble. Well done.

Though this thread is now a few years old, I'd like to share that going into the Printer's menu and resetting all settings also fixed the problem for me. I had the exact same issue as this user in that everything was setup correctly but network printing simply didn't work. I have a Canon MF4580dn and it's now working great as a network connected printer thanks to this thread!!!
