fsck -y won't work

sueb Edit 2006-05-30 18:47
hi all

my terminal "fsck -y" wont go beyond putting in the command. all it does is go back to my computer name again. yes, I am entering fsck (space) - f.

Here is what happened. last night I got the long tone when starting > then went to screen as normal. later I restarted and got the box with a blinking "?". couldnt shut down or three finger start. > so pushed the little button in the back (and went to bed) (too tired to deal with it 😉

tonight I reset the pram (3 bongs ) > started right up.

that's when I decided to run fsck -y. no matter how many times I do it it returns immediately to the opening line.

ideas?

thanks. and no, I have just used the fsck part as I had always done. guess it must have been since panther since I have used the fsck, back when the precedent wasnt used.

and yes, I know that I could use the disk and disk utility and will probably do that, but not matter, I am now challenged to get the terminal fsck working

thanks all will go and try
