Start up stuck on gray screen with apple logo on startup

I have tried booting in Safe Mode by pressing shift, but after I see the bar load it goes right back to the apple with the spinning wheel.

I tried refreshing the pram (command option p r) and that didn't do anything.

I tried shift command v and the last line that it got stuck on was BootCache Control: could not unlink bootcache playlist/var/db/bootcache.playlist 22 invalid argument. Then it just stopped there.

Also, I am running Mountain Lion on Mid-2010 Macbook Pro.

Any suggestions?

I took it to the Apple store by me and they said it wouldn't read the hard drive. I took it to a data recovery place and they said they could easily get the data off my hard drive - for $350 bucks. I did more research and found that I needed a new hard drive cable. This is what I got for the Macbook Pro - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009JGNKSA/ref=oh_details_o05_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&p sc=1 but I am sure you will need a different version of the part for the Air. Look up the part by the date of your Macbook Air (something like Late 2011, Mid 2012, etc.).

It was easy to take out and re-install myself. Good luck.
