I can't add files to the iTunes library

I have six .mp3 files on my computer I'm trying to import into my iTunes library and it allows me to select them and hit OPEN, but then nothing happens and I'm not able to find them in my library. What gives? Anyone have any advice? I'm using a PC with Windows 7.
