Cannot attach email to iCal event

I am trying to attach an email to a new iCal event I just created. I drag and drop the email into the event while in edit mode, but it won't attach or provide any kind of URL or anything. The calendar is a Google CalDAV calendar, could this have something to do with it? Thanks.
