How are you going to reinstall lion if the disk is faulty. So you can still boot to the recovery hd partition and from that you tried to reinstall mountain lion and you couldn't? Probably because your drive is failing.

If you have a fairly new mini you might be able to use the internet recovery system. Hold down the command+option+r keys at startup until you see a globe on the screen. From that try repairing the disk. Try to repartition the disk as one partition. Then try reinstalling lion. If any or all of that fails the drive has failed and will need to be replaced.

Tried it all. Says the disk cannot be repaired. I don't have cd/DVD drive should I just reformat through disk utility & then reinstall Lion? It won't let me install Mountain Lion.
