Q: Apple online gift card personal to email?

Hi.

I'm buying an iTunes/App Store/... gift card for the first time.

I want to print and give the code myself. In the previous layout it said 'Printable Gift Certificates'. Now, the only method to send a gift card is by entering an email. Does the email contain the code to redeem it, or is it bound to that specific email adress? I'd like to be sure I don't accidently link it to my own account.
