Why do I need a credit card?

You don't need a credit card, there are instructions on this page for creating a new account (the instructions won't work on existing accounts) without giving a credit card number : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2534 e.g. select a free app in the store and click on 'create Apple id when 'buying' it

If you did not set up your Apple ID to be used without a credit card from the very start, you now have to enter credit card details, even if you want to download free content. There is a very specific way that you have to set up an Apple ID if you know that you will not be using a credit card at all.

You can create an iTune and App Store account without credit card details

1. Sign out of current Apple ID if you are sign-in to one (important)

2. Go to App Store and select a free app

3. Tap INSTALL APP

4. Create New Apple ID

5. Confirm Your Country

6. Agree with Terms and Conditions

7. Fill in your Apple ID and Password (you must create a new Apple ID; don't use your old Apple ID)

8. Create and answer your secret question

9. Select NONE for Payment Method

10. Fill in Billing Address

11. Submit application for new Apple ID

12. Wait for verification email

13. When email arrive, verify your account

14. Start downloading your free apps

Ok so, i tried everything, but when i go to get a free app and do all the sign up stuff it shows that the profile has not been used before and that i have to review it. When i review it, it needs a credit card! I mean, i wont get a credit card just for itunes! Anybody know if there is a solution to this?

You created the account as part of 'buying' the free app e.g. you found a free app in the store, clicked on its free 'price', and clicked 'create Apple id' on the popup and created the account ?

I did, but when i wanted to download something, it wanted a credit card and it was a free app

And you are in the same country as where your account is based ? I tried it just after my above reply in response to another thread and I was able to create a new account by following those instructions and got 'none' on the payments screen and was able to verify the account and download a free app without giving payment details i.e. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5405039?answerId=23269339022#23269339022

Why did the original poster name "theyellowshoe" disappear and change to "vendukanave"?

Is it different, when I am doing this on the computer? Because, when I try to download a free app, it does not show the none option. Do you think, that if I did it using my ipod, it would work?

I created a new account and I found out, that the problem was, that I did not get the "congratulations" page. After I clciked go back to store, I could download it free. Thanks for the effort to help! Finally I can download it! YEY!
