Why is my ipad3 not responding, although I've tried to switched it on, despite pressing on the button?

I'm using ipad 3 for last seven months with no disturbance. Today, the ipad screen has started getting blurred and after sometime I've found it switched off, although I've tried to switched it on by pressing the on/off button a number of times. Can anyone tell me what is the reason and how to make it alright?

If it's not switching on, then assuming that the battery isn't empty (and it can take up to 15 minutes of charging before it will respond), then have you tried a soft-reset ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds, after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
