I have a Sony Vaio laptop which i bought in january 2013 and have recently had it repaired as it had some problems with the Sony software. I had to reinstall iTunes and it opened fine but obviously my whole library had been wiped so I had to import all my CDs again. I went to start this today and iTunes won't open. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling but this hasn't worked? Please help!

You might want to try uninstalling iTunes and all of its components as by following this guide: Windows XP or Windows Vista/7, then reinstall iTunes. Follow the guide as written, uninstalling all components in the specified order. Note: uninstalling iTunes will only remove the application; it will not touch your iTunes library or data.
I have windows 8 on my laptop though?
It should be the same components that you need to uninstall. Try unstalling the components as outlined in the Windows 7 link, making any adjustments needed for uninstalling in Windows 8.

Hello,
I am having this same problem on my HP Pavilion dv6 running Windows 7. I followed all of the instructions on the page you linked to but iTunes still won't launch. Quicktime will, but when try to open iTunes nothing happens. No message or action of any kind. When I have Task Manager open and attempt to open iTunes, itunes.exe briefly appears in Task Manager, but then vanishes. Please help!

Unfortunately those steps did not fix the problem either.
I also tried the troubleshooting steps in this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1717I was able to get iTunes to open when I logged on as a different user but none of that article's user-specific troubleshooting steps solved the problem either.
Try repairing Quicktime: go to Start>Control Panel>Uninstall a Program>right-click on Quicktime, then click Repair. Then try iTunes again.
Alas, that did not work either. 😕
I also tried "repairing" iTunes itself and that didn't do anything.
Unfortunately I'm out of ideas. Suggest you start a new post with your question so some other folks can take a look at it who may have some other suggestions. Good luck!
The answer is opening up your task manager.
Go to processes and find itunes. It will be there even if itunes is not open.
Click end process and this will fix the problem.
Double click on itunes and it will run.
