Q: AirPlay - back to iPad option?

I have an iPad 3. I'm able to hear sounds like Siri and text messages but I'm unable to hear sounds in games, movies (Netflix/Hulu), or music. Upon further investigation, I looked at my airplay options which list all devices to use with AirPlay except the option to go back to my iPad.  I could be losing it, but I'm pretty sure that was an option before...

 

I've tried everything from making sure the switch in the side isn't set to mute to even completely resetting my iPad. Am I willing to try anything to get the sound to work again - I'm just not coming up with anything that has worked.

    Try resetting your iPad.  Hold the on/off and home buttons together for about 10 seconds till you see the Apple logo.

     

    You should see your iPad speakers again in AirPlay.

    I did completely reset (removed all content and settings) my iPad before I posted this, but just to try- I did a soft reset (holding the home and power button down). This did not work. I do see something that I'm not sure I've seen before.. It says "dock connector" in the AirPlay options which seems odd to me....

    "Dock connector" is odd - I agree.

     

    So I think you mean you erased all content and settings earlier, and then restored your iPad from something (like iTunes, perhaps iCloud).  Hopefully that completed normally, with a sync, etc.  Then hopefully you remembered to eject the iPad from iTunes before you physically decoupled the two from the USB cable.

     

    If not, you might wish to repeat at least the sync process, remembering the eject at the end.

    Yes, thank you for the suggestions but I, indeed, I did all of these things (except restoring, I haven't restored).
