just wanted to add, a 6-inch USB 2.0 extension cable (A-male A-female) solved the fit problem on my Airport Extreme and on my Macbook Pros 2011 -- i did these two pics for amazon review because it may save someone time
I ran the following tests off my Mac USB ports (not the router).
The USB ports on my Mac Pro are 2.0.
My write speed on the device was 28MBs copying a 3GB video .mov file from an internal Apple hard drive.
I got 38 MBs copying the same file from an internal SSD.
I copied the 3GB .mov file to a different 64GB Patriot Super Sonic Plus 3.0 USB flash drive and got 17 MBs write time.
I copied the 3GB .mov file to a different 8GB Patriot Super Sonic 3.0 USB flash drive and got 5.62 MBs write time.
On my 2011 Macbook Pro 15" (2.0 USB), I copied a 11GB folder of small .jpg and .mov off the device into my HD an got 33.8 MBs read, 32-39 MBs write.
On my 2011 Macbook Pro 13" (2.0 USB), I copied a 56GB folder of 500MB-2GB .mov off my HD to the device an got 24 MBs read, 24 MBs write.
I also reformatted the device to Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
I can hardly believe how much faster the 128GB writes than my other Patriot USB 3.0 thumb drives.
I monitored the read/write speeds in Apple's Activity Monitor: Disk Activity application.
You can go there by opening Activity Monitor> Window> Activity Monitor> Disk Activity and observing the numbers during a read/write operation.
