I'd take a look at the section titled "Ensure that Siri can clearly hear you," which might help you out. We also have a more general About Siri article that provides some tips for using it.

Back to the original question. How do you say "directions" and how do you say "airport"?

You could try changing your region in Settings > General > Siri > Language to English (UK) or English (Australia) perhaps?
