I followed the above solution and it worked on the second attempt. Initially I had the same problem as you.
The first time I followed Settings/General/Usage/Music.........then I hit Edit and deleted all music that way. I had the same problem as you.
The second time I followed Settings/General/Usage/Music.......then I swiped across All Music and hit the delete button that pops up. After a few moments I went to music and it was all gone.
Make sure you go to settings/itunes and deselect "show all music" before you do the above.
Also, when you connect the iPad to iTunes via cable, make sure on the summary tab under options, you have only got "Sync only checked songs and videos" selected.
This worked for me.

Aug 20, 2014 7:24 AM in response to Yachtybuggerby franck103,Thanks.. I tried all that (delete from Settings/Usage multiple times, change sync options in iTunes, disconnect from iCloud, waiting, restarting...) and I still have phantom music on the iPad that I can't get rid of (Usage goes back to 10G and the Music app lists loads of "Unknown" title, artist etc).
The iPad has been synced with other PCs in the past, I am afraid this is where the problem comes from.

Aug 30, 2014 5:08 PM in response to Bates3289by hyper_daydreaming,For large amounts of data this might take a bit,
I had 40 Gb of music to delete, when I tried to check immediately after pressing delete everything was still there and then nothing happened, I repeated the attempt and left the ipad sitting there, the music was gone two minutes later.
Hope this helps

Oct 5, 2014 6:26 PM in response to lacticsby amanda303,I have a question to follow on from this....
I have deleted all my music off my IPad successfully, No Data currently shows.
I now want to delete the library on the IPad that is empty.
I am using home sharing, and at the moment everytime I open the music app or leave it idle it goes by default to the IPad library with no data instead of the shared library that I want to use.
Any help would be great!
Thanks so much

Nov 23, 2014 7:43 PM in response to lacticsby tailet ficilien,Hi, friends. If you want to completely delete those songs, I recommend you a software - iPhone Data Eraser. It's designed to erase data completely from iPhone/iPad/iPod. You can use it to delete music from iPad.
Step 1.Install iPhone Data Eraser on the computer and connect iPad with computer.
Step 2.Choose "Erase All Data on Device" on the list.
Step 3.Delete music on iPad. "Medium" level is the most common choice. Click "Start" to erase.
You also see what you have to do is very simple. Have a try!

Dec 8, 2015 5:09 AM in response to lacticsby BIGSARGE64,I had over 4,000 songs on my IPad 2 and just remove them. One easy way to remove all music from your library and make memory room is go to settings > Storage and Icloud usage > from there you have the option I chose Storage > Manage storage > select the music icon > and it removed the music from my device but not from my Icloud. I hope this can help any one.
