Return iPhone Case After 14 Day Limit?

My 14 year old son bought a $40 iPhone case from our local retail apple store. He has only been using the case for the last week and then it's started to tear and rip. It was with his birthday money which he really wanted one and now he's dearly upset. The case is unusable at this point. I assumed the return date was a month but when I check the receipt it said 14 days which was last Monday. what can I do I'm highly unhappy. Thank you!

iPhone 4, iOS 6.0.1

Apple only accepts for refund for 14-days following the sale, however, take the case back to the store with the receipt and talk to the staff. Approach them in a friendly manner and explain the whole situation and they just might work with you on it. They are usually very helpful people so give them a chance to help you.
