WHAT IS GOING ON?! help me please

2006 new black macbook 80GB:

I have had this computer for less than a week and already,
the keyboard is not responding (numlock is not pressed)
and the trackpad also doesnt register at all.
I plugged in an external usb mouse, and it worked- I dont know if that helps the diagnosis at all.

What is going on?
help me please

Do the Shift-Lock or Num-Lock keys' LEDs light up when you press those keys?

Have you tried removing and re-inserting the battery? How about resetting PRAM. Also there is the Hardware Test CD that you could use for a diagnosis.

I had a bum keyboard on mine for which I had to return it to Apple. They were quick to give me a replacement laptop. I would call Apple Care or take it into the store (you have 14 days from the date of purchase to return the item and 1 year from the date of purchase for warranty replacement)

This is not normal and is something you should have Apple fix for you.
