Does your iPhone 5's wifi drop off when your phone goes to sleep?

My iPhone 5 is 2wks old and every time the phone goes to sleep the wifi stops. When I wake it up it takes approx 5-7 secs to start the wifi again :( VERY annoying!! Meanwhile i miss out on notifications! My phone is updated to the latest version 6.1.4 but a fix has STILL not been done for this. C'mon Apple get your **** together your customers are waiting!!

Also.... Does any of Apples techs even read these complaints from their customers? I'm thinking not because this issue when googled is VERY prominent for other users.

iPhone 5, iOS 6.1.4

Yes, and this is by design and intention since the original iPhone was released with iOS 1.0 nearly 6 years ago.

The wi-fi connection will not be dropped when the iPhone remains connected to a power source.

You don't have a data plan with your carrier?

Sorry Allan, but this is NOT BY DESIGN! I have had a 3GS for the past 4yrs and it did and does not do this whether i've been connected to a power source or not.I have a great data plan with my carrier thank you for asking. I also understand that this is a user to user forum, but when Apple ignores their customers complaints so blatantly through other supports whether it be phone excuses, emails ect... I thought I could get some other users talking about this problem here and just maybe Apple will do something about it.

So somebody tell me why then that I do not recieve iMessages, notifications, email alerts ect. When my phone is sleeping? As It has always done before. I do not have cell service at my home so everything comes via my wifi. My wife's 3GS receives iMessage alerts while her phone is sleeping but mine won't alert until I wake it up.

WRONG!!!

I have used the original iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, and iPhone 5 and all have/do the very same - this is by design and intention beginning with the original iPhone and iOS 1.0.

Notifications don't require the iPhone being connected to an available wi-fi network. You shouldn't be missing out on any notifications since the iPhone will be connected to your carrier's cellular network (unless there is no cellular reception) when the wi-fi network is dropped when the iPhone is in sleep mode unless the iPhone remains connected to a power source.

Unless the iPhone remained connected to a power source, it did not receive notifications via wi-fi when the iPhone was in sleep mode because the wi-fi connection is dropped, so it must have had minimum cellular reception at the time - enough to receive the noitifcations.

If the iPhones have no cellular reception at all - the battery must be depleted very fast trying to get a connection with the cellular network. The iPhones are never connected to a power source when at home, and what is the setting on each for automatic lock?

I just woke my iPhone 4S and iPhone 5 up currently not connected to a power source that are connected to my wi-fi network and the connection inficator switched from 4G to the wi-fi connection indicator in a blink of an eye as it did with my original iPhone, iPhone 3G, and iPhone 4 with all iOS versions to date run between all.

What setting would that be to alert you when your iPhone goes into sleep mode automatically?

I have my apps ect set to banners & badges. For example I received no notice that you had replied until I woke my phone then about 3-5 secs later my wifi came on then about another 3 secs went by before my email alert went off. All while not plugged in.

With my 3GS (and my wife's) I would normally get an alert while the phone was in stand by. I had backed up my 3GS and it successfully installed onto my iPhone 5 with no issues whatsoever except for this wifi difference. :(
