Q: Moving files from PC to iMac
Hello All,
I know this has been posted to some degree and I apologize if I missed it. I am 90% confident my plan will work for me… trouble is the Apple Tech on a call was not sure and had me doing all types of complex steps… I want to keep it simple as Macs are new to me
I am moving my PC files (mainly JPG, RAW, music and movies) from my PC to my new iMac (about 400GB worth). Can you please confirm my plan/logic will work?:
- Copy my files from my PC to an NTFS external HD (USB3)
- Connect NTFS external HD to the iMac
- COPY not MOVE my files from the external HD to the iMac i.e.: at this point the files will be on the external HD and the iMac.
- Reformat the external HD to Mac OS (journaled)
- This will do 2 things for me:
- Delete all the files I just moved from my PC to the iMac
- Set up this X-HD for Time Machine backups from my iMac
Am I missing anything?
Thanks,
Joseph
