Crazy intermittent iphone 5 charging/many solutions work for a short while some not at all

Sooo many posts on iphone 5 intermittent / non charging issues. I find a new idea, like "use the higher power usb port" and it worked, for a while. Clean the port and worked first time but not any more. Wiggle, squeeze, pull, push, straighten, cord - no. Apple only cord - no. Car charger intermittent. Multiple ideas with airplane mode, rebooting and push pull sim card, no dice

And today the experiment continues and it seems to charge but only when the iphone is OFF? When I turn it back on the charge has crept up. Not as fast as normal but in an hour it went from 3% to 25%.

Some have suggested software issues, cord chips and that makes the most sense due to the absolute intermittent issues. I'm a longtime software tester and have not found a good work around and I'm like a dog with a bone. Perhaps this, charging while off is a workaround, albeit awefull.

Help, anybody? ANYBODY? My next workaround is to reactivate my iphone3s and picket the store.

OK this charging while phone is off seems like a real thing. Tested it on car charger, 2 pc's and a wall wart. Seems like a power issue where the phone just can't handle both being on and receiving a charge. Also an interesting side note is that the PC file manager shows a flower icon representing the pictures on my phone but in no other way does the pc "see" the phone. If I click on the flower, it says something like "I cloud" and if I click on that, says something like "Available space 90% would you like to sign up?". Again this smacks of a partial connection. Oh and I did use the high power (black) USB port. 😟

This cord used to work and now this partial connection. I'm guessing another $19. cord will work but will likely turn into this "zombie" (half dead) cord after unknown conditions. 😕

Upside, if you're desparate to charge your iphone 5, try turning it off while charging. 😕

Anybody out there? Is this thing on? 😉

I had charging issues too and tried everything. After some research on the many blogs about the problem I found these guys in Livonia, NY that replace the port and they shipped it back to me for like 45 dollars. My wife is running into this with her iPhone5. It won't charge off of the outlet on the nightstand (yes, the nightstand has a top drawer wired to charge/power up to four devices) but it will power up when she takes it inot the bathroom. Zero probability that the outlet makes any difference whatsoever but she's convinced that it does so I have to work through that one before I get to investigate the real cause.

Wil try to charge it powered down when she gets home and quits being ****** at me because I shot down her theory.

I really hate FEP like this.
