Is there a way to rotate the Ken Burns effect to a portrait?

I am creating a slideshow in iMovie '11. I have many portraits. The Ken Burns effect is set up for landscape shots. When I rotate my photo, I get the look I want but the pics are sideways. When I rotate back, the effect rotates. Does anyone know if this is possible?

iMac (27-inch Mid 2010), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8)

I would suggest that on the Ken Burns screen, you select "Allow Black". Ken Burns will still use landscape rectangles, but you can get more of your photo into the rectangle.
