To use automatic syncing to load your iPod, you may need to set up (or update) the iPod's Music tab in iTunes.

Select the iPod in iTunes.  There is a row of "tabs" (starting with Summary).  Click on Music there.  This is the Music tab, where you tell iTunes how to sync your iPod.

Check the box for Sync Music.  If your entire iTunes music library fits on the iPod, you can choose to sync Entire music library (and skip to next paragraph).  Otherwise, choose to sync Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres.  Below that, create a selection of songs to sync to the iPod.  For example, if you want to keep it simple, you can create a new regular playlist in iTunes (call it "iPod Songs").  Put all songs you want on the iPod on that playlist (including those recent song purchases).  On the Music tab, find and checkmark that one playlist under Playlists.

When you click Apply, the selection of songs on the Music tab syncs to the iPod, replacing its existing content.  Going forward, any changes to your iTunes music library, related to the Music tab settings, sync automatically the next time you connect the iPod, or when you click the Sync button.  So, if you have a playlist with your "iPod songs," just update that playlist (add and remove songs) whenever you want; iTunes syncs the same changes to the iPod at the next opportunity.

Kenichi, are you the techie who provided this response?  If not, then this reply is not for you, if you are, please help me.  I'm frustrated.

I had the same problem.  I found your help, followed the instructions you (Apple) provided and it did sync the 5 or 6 recently purchased songs however it also erased all of my other 400ish songs.  If you have not figured it out, I'm not a happy camper.  You need to me more end user friendly.  Now, please tell me how to sync my songs from my library back onto my IPOD.

    Thank you
