I have a Retina MacBookPro i7. I've updated the software this morning to the above update. The screen has been gray for 30 minutes now for a 1.2mb update. Before you update the computer warns you there will be a gray background and progress bar, I have just a gray background, no progress bar and it's been going for over 30 minutes...

Well I solved this myself by simply holding down the reboot key for 5 seconds. The update then takes hold with the usual firmware progress bar whilst the laptop reboots twice. Update complete and back to normal laptop.
