wifi does not stay logged in and network preferences issue

Hi. I have a first generation macbook air. Two apparently related issues that just started happening recently. 1st I noticed that when I close the laptop and open it again, it starts searching for my home network (wifi) and will not join it unless I select it from the drop-down list. This didn't used to happen, it used to just join automatically. Second, when I open advanced in network preferences, though wifi is ON and connected, the button in the preferences panel says that wifi is OFF. When I click that button, nothing happens. I do have "automatically join" checked in preferences.

Any ideas how I can fix this nuisance?

Thanks,

Adam

hello acbell,

There are a couple of things that you can try. First would be folllowing the Wi-Fi troubleshooting from the article below.

Troubleshooting Wi-Fi issues in OS X Lion and Mac OS X v10.6

Aother thing I would recommend is setting up a new network location and seeing if your issues persist then. Take a look at the section "Making new locations" in the article below.

Using network locations (Mac OS X v10.6 and later)

Hope that helps,

Thanks for the reply Griff. Actually, before I saw this, someone told me to try deleting the SystemConfiguration Preferences folder and reboot. That did it. I later learned that if I had just deleted the NetworkInterfaces.plist file in that folder, my problem would have been solved. Anyway, all good now.

Thanks,

Adam
