Yes. They can force the phone into recovery mode & restore it as a new device.

    Change all of your passwords.

    Hi,

I just had my iPhone 4S stolen. It was locked with a passcode, and I did have Find My iPhone activated. It's been showing as offline since it was stolen, but I have set it to notify me once it comes online. I'm not really concerned about losing the data because it was synced fairly regularly, and I don't use iCloud for anything except the Find iPhone feature. But I would like to get the phone back! I've got two questions:

    1. If someone forces the phone into recovery mode, does that wipe out all my data and passwords, etc? Or does it just remove the code and allow whoever took it to access the phone's contents (that were previously protected behind a passcode)?

    2. If they have forced it into recovery mode, does that prevent me from being able to track the phone from iCloud, when/if the phone is turned on?

I'm trying to stay optimistic, because I've heard these do show up, but also want to know if someone could just prevent it from showing up on "Find My iPhone" simply by forcing it into recovery mode.

    Thanks!
