FCP - Dropped Frames

FCP - Dropped Frames

I’m having issues with dropped frames when editing in FCP. I can turn the dropped frame warning off, but I still hear constant audio pops from when a frame is dropped, and this makes it very difficult to work. Having other applications open definitely makes it worse, but often the problem will occur when I have nothing open. Restarting my machine will improve the situation, but only for an hour or so. Any ideas what the problem might be?

Blackmagic Design Desktop Video 9.6.1

FCP 7.03

Hardware:

-Processor 2 x 3.2 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon

-Memory 10 GB 800 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM

-Graphics NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512 MB

-Blackmagic DeckLink HD Pro (DL)

Final Cut Pro 7, Mac OS X (10.7.5)

Also, the problem seems to be more prevelent when working with 2398 timeline.

you haven't told us: Source format, Sequence settings and your hard drive type. Working with media on your startup drive is not recommended.

Sorry about that. Here is the rest of the info:

Source Format: ProRes (HQ), 1920x1080, 23.98

Sequence Settings: Same as above

Hard Drive Type: CalDigit HDOne

well here are some troubleshooting tips

You might want to see if there's a problem with the drive. I think Aja makes a utility to test drive speed.

Do you have any other drives or peripherals connected to the computer? Try disconnecting them.

Try disconnecting any ethernet connections and turning off your airport.

Are you running any other programs at the same time?

Have you tried turning off blackmagic monitoring?

I tried all of the above recommendations, and the problem seems to be with the blackmagic. As soon as I turn off blackmagic monitoring, the problem clears up. I tried updating the drivers, but this didn't help. Any suggestions?
