May 15, 2013 3:23 AM in response to Schnoebelenby Smartmart,Download a program called Handbrake (its free - find it on google) and use it to rip your dvd to a video file on your computer (for a large screen use the apple TV pre-set, although I would recommend you research how all the different pre-sets available in handbrake affect the end quality of the movie).
Then use iDvd to create a dvd. Drop the video file into the movie section of the iDvd interface, choose your theme and burn it. Works with home and commercial.
nb. Pirating commercial DVD's is an offence and is wrong! Only do this for your own archive purposes - no exceptions

May 15, 2013 12:27 PM in response to Smartmartby Old Toad,Ripping and then creating a new iDVD project just reduces the image quality. Using Disk Utility to create a disk image of the orignal disk and burn a new disk will retain the original quality.

May 15, 2013 4:32 PM in response to Old Toadby Smartmart,Very true. You are absolutely right, but creating a disk image doesn't work with the majority if commercial DVD's. I've wasted many a blank DVD trying to recreate one. For quality if always say buy an official release. There's so many cheap online retailers out there. For archiving create a soft or hard copy but don't expect to be as good as the original. It is a copy after all.

May 16, 2013 8:15 AM in response to Smartmartby Old Toad,We're not talking about commercial DVDs here. You said it was a DVD that you creatred so the Disk Utiility path will work. It's against the Terms of Use of these forums to discuss or assist in ripping commercial DVDs.
