Question

my mac pro g5 will not boot

My mac pro g5 will not boot. It will turn on but will not boot even the second added hard drive. I have two hard drives in the computer. Also my keyboard will not function when the computer is on before it tries to boot. I hope both drives are ok! This act started two days ago. I got it to boot yesterday by unplugging the hard drives.I then plugged in the cables. It then booted. But unfortunely now nothing! Is it time to buy a new computer, help! Thanks!

There is no such thing as Mac Pro G5. It is either a PowerMac G5 or a Intel Mac Pro.

I am sorry that I termed wrong. Yes it is power mac dual g5 with os 10.4

When is the last time you replaced the PRAM batttery in you PowerMac?

I have not replaced the tiny logged shaped battery on the on the motherboard. Is that the pram battery? The computer acts like it's in sleep mode (when I power it up), but it is unable to wake up.

Yes. That is it. If it is weak it can cause all sorts of problems.

It's been almost 8 yrs since I have owned my computer. So the battery is almost 8 yrs old. Where do I buy a new PRAM battery ? I doubt anyone makes a new pram batery. I don't think it would be at an apple store.

Try Radio Shack

The normal life expectancy for those batteries is 5 years

Well I bought a pram battery at radio shsck an off brand from the one in the computer. It didn't help. I don't hear a clicking sound from either hard. Unless it is a soft sound. What else could be wrong?
