USB Port Problem...

I have a mid-2012 MacBook Pro with an i7 processor. Today I just bought a PNY 32GB memory stick from the Apple store. But I noticed that the flash card only connects to the USB port closer to the screen, and not the one closer to me.

I rpoceeded to connect another flash card (16GB Dane-Elec) and tried it on both successfully. Could you please tell me why the 32GB card does not connect to both USB ports?

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3)
