I configured manually, PowerMac's ip address is 192.168.0.1 but still can't get acces, the one way or the other?

What could be the problem?

The first problem is to establish an Ethernet connection. The second would be to set up file sharing.

At least earlier, it was possible to access files on or push files to a Mac OS X computer via TCP/IP, if the connection was initiated from the Mac OS 8 side. I do not know whether this still can be done if the modern computer is running 10.6.x, though (someone else here may be able to provide you with more exact information about this). If not, one workaround could possibly be to set up Personal Web Sharing on the Power Macintosh 8500/120, and then use a web browser on the modern Mac to (locally) access files. Another way could be to use FTP.
