You'd basically need to get a 2008 Xserve SATA controller. PN is 661-4648. The RAID controller literally sits in the same spot removing it will mean getting the above part. On the 2008 Xserve's there were certainly some issues with the battery for the raid card. You might find replacing that is a simpler option $70 on ebay.
RAID card is fine when it's working and assuming your server is on 24/7

Either of those is correct. When removing the RAID card follow the instructions here http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/Xserve_RAID_Card_DIYInstructions.pdf
Make sure you remove the battery as well.

Aug 15, 2016 8:07 PM in response to beatle20359by tom2lee,Hi Beatle! hi abhiconhye !
3 years already !!!
I'm in the same situation as abhiconhye ! So WAFITCheat ?? Thoses raid cards in the xserve !??
If you're still around Beatle ? I would be very interested in what you said here: "...When removing the RAID card follow the instructions here http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/Xserve_RAID_Card_DIYInstructions.pdf..."
Unfortunately, this link is dead and i can not find these Apple documentations.
Mine is an Apple xserve 3.1, Nehalem from 2009, and I changed the battery, but the raid card was never recognized when I boot the machine. So this xserve no longer being used for anything as this raid card is the only input to connect any drive. (Internal connection).
All help will be welcome thank you in advance.
