Q: Aggregation only works with certain devices

The one thing that this article doesn't say, which is critical for my needs, is that aggregation only works if the drivers are compatible with Apple's CoreAudio.  Two of my three interfaces will not work:  Tascam US-144 MkII (the most popular audio interface in the world) & Alesis Multimix 8 USB 2.0.  My third, an Alesis Multimix 4 (stereo) sort of works with aggregation but for some reason the Mac recognizes the input and output as two separate devices in the aggregation facility.  It works find on its own, with Garageband recognizing both the 2 channel inputs and 2 channel outputs.

So I cannot run my Multimix 8 with anything else.  I can't run my Tascam US-144 with anything else.  This means that I can't record the 10 feeds that I need to record (live band, separating all pieces for later mixing) at the same time.

If I had known this in advance, I would have waited until I could afford the Multimix 16, which the Mac recognizes with all 16 channels.
