Our students ONLY have iPads...no computers. If they create a song in the GarageBand app, how do they get it into the iTunes App on the same iPad? They've made some great videos and some great music. They'd like to put it all together, but haven't been able to get music out of GarageBand.

afaik, there not yet any way to share finished GarageBand projects to the Music.app on the iPad, without a roundtrip to a computer and syncing with this computer, sorry.

Bummer. What's the point of having GarageBand if you can't do anything with the songs created?
Apple...oh, Apple? You convinced us that all this stuff would integrate beautifully. Now it doesn't. What's a school to do?
If your students create their videos also on the iPad using iMovie, can't you just share the song directly to iMovie without going through iTunes?

They can get the music out of GarageBand - there are several ways to share it - email it for example. The problem is to get it into the Music.app on the iPad from the iPad 😁
The Music.app is the gateway to the AppStore and Apple seems to guard this in a special way to prevent copyright infringements. It is really a pity that Apple does not regard the music we are making with GarageBand in the same category as the music bought from the AppStore.

From iMovie you can save it to the Camera Roll or share it to iTunes on a mac or PC, but you still cannot get it into the Music.app on your iPad - it is just silly.
All student iPads (600) are set up/synced/controlled using a program called 'configurator' instead of to any iTunes account. Plugging them into a computer makes crazy things happen on the iPads due to that original configuration, so no...while it's a great thought, it won't work for this.
Additionally, having 600 6th, 7th, 8th graders trying to vie for one Mac would be a nightmare in itself. Here's the whole project. It's artsy..so bear with me. This is an advanced art class, 8th grade. Students have used a stop motion app called OSnap to create videos. They have created music and/or voiceovers in GarageBand. They want to add those to the OSnap video. If they have purchased music in their iTunes account, it can be used just fine. If however, they need that voiceover or created music, they are 'up salt creek without a paddle'.
I can export from GarageBand to iMovie, but not to iTunes or Music.

Voila! There is a workaround!
Create music or voice-over in GarageBand. EMAIL it to yourself. It will be an .m4a format
From the email, press and hold the file and choose OPEN IN iMovie. Go to iMovie and name the file that downloaded.
Do the same thing with the movie file to which you need to add the voiceover.
Open the SONG file in iMovie. Use the icon at the top left to add the VIDEO file. They merge 'auto-magically'.
Go back to the Projects screen and you will have three files -- original song, original movie, combined project.
From the Projects screen, share the project to your cameral roll.
The send to iTunes will allow it to be played on a Mac if you have that option. We don't have Macs, but we do have Apple TV's with our projectors, so the students can present to their classmates or email a final project to a teacher or upload to iCloud or Dropbox.

My version is using Garage Band songs (from the APP on my iPad) in Book Creator APP also on my iPad...a mere few millimeters physically distant but impossible to connect. What sort of cockamamie logic is this? It took me hours yesterday to effect a solution. Please, I'm on the verge of melting down my Apple machines and buying a brand new--not so proprietary-- Dell.

I'm very confused by this, because there is a function in GarageBand where you go to the song list, tap edit, then share the song to iTunes, and the iPad spends the next 5 minutes "sending the song to iTunes", then nothing happens? Where did the song go? If you can't send it to the Music app, then where is the song? Did it go to iTunes via the cloud somehow? I'm confused here.
Exactly why I accessed this thread! I have recorded about 20 minutes of songs on ipad Garage Band and "uploaded to itunes" (which took about 10 minutes); the upload stopped but I can't find the songs on itunes???

Sharing to iTunes will render an audio file for downloading on a computer. The song will appear in iTunes on your Mac or PC when you sync your iPad with your computer. However, it will not send the song to the Music.app on your iPad.

Where have you looked for the song? It should appear in the "File Sharing > Documents" section in iTunes. Syncing alone will not suffice - you have to import it, when the iPad is connected:

With your iPad connected to your computer, open iTunes. Click on your iPad under "Devices" on the left side navigation bar. On the right side of the screen, you see "Summary Info Apps Music ...". Click on "Apps" and scroll down to File Sharing (in the window at the bottom of the page.) There -- click on GarageBand - and you will see "GarageBand Documents" with a list of any files you have sent to iTunes from within GarageBand. You can "Add" to this list (if someone gives you a compatible ".band" file, or "Save To" to save this file off somewhere else.

I finally managed to figure out this convoluted process. It's not very user friendly at all. I would think it wouldn't be this hard to make a song in GarageBand and get it right into iTunes, either right to the Music app or via the cloud. I have iTunes Match. It should allow me to import my song into the music app, then push it to iTunes via the cloud. This process took forever to figure out and execute. iNotHappy
