why does Aperture not support .mts videos?

You'd have to ask Apple. See Aperture->Provide Aperture Feedback or (Apple - Feedback) to suggest enhancements to the program.

Some more information would be helpful. For starters, what kind of camera? What version of Aperture? Specifically, what is/isn't happening?
I have no problem importing MTS video from a Panny GH2. So the problem isn't necessarily MTS.
Well I have a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX20V.
I haven't got Aperture yet but I wanna buy it. So I checked the supported video formats on the homepage and there was no .mts support
Who can tell me, if it works also with my camera?
Your camera uses AVCHD, like the Panasonic, so it might. Note that you cannot drag a MTS clip into Aperture to import it, but Aperture does find the clips buried in the AVCHD file structure when importing from the SD card.
Hopefully someone with that camera will jump in here, but if not:
Do you have iPhoto on your system? Try that.
Is there an Apple store nearby? Take your card to the store and try it with Aperture.
What is your primary video editing software? If Aperture won't read your video files directly, then your video editor can likely export to a format Aperture can use.
Yes I do have iPhoto, but I was not able to get the video with .mts into iPhoto AND iMovie.
I tried it from my SD card. With the pictures (no problem) and videos with mp4 is also no problem
iPhoto recognize it immediately.
But it does not recognize my .mts files I don't have any other software for my video, sony does not support any software with my camera on my iMac, might be that the problem?
It look's like I have to convert all my videos???
Google this: "imovie sony dsc-hx20v". Some of what shows up might be of help.
Allright, now I can see where's the problem. I made videos with 50P put iMovie (and iPhoto) accept only files with i, so 50i... less quality but it works.
Now another thing, the same video (50i / mts) looks much different in iPhoto as in iMovie!
In iPhoto (I don't wanna work with the video in iPhoto, just put everything from an event together, pictures/videos) the video has a really bad quality!
In iMovie it looks quite good, is that not a little bit strange?
Glad the search helped. Don't know what to tell you about iPhoto quality, except that it isn't primarily video software, obviously, and may be doing a bit of resampling or something that is degarding the qulaity shown. BTW, if it works in iPhoto, it will likely work in Aperture, but no guarantees of course. Aperture may be the better cataloging solution if you anticipate lots of photos and videos.
I bought yesterday Aperture and actually it works same as iPhoto, so what I mean,'s the same quality with the video and only 50i .mts videos work with the software. the good thing is, it works with iPhoto together without problems.
With Lightroom 4 I can use any video format also both 50p or 50i .mts too bad Apple is not able to bring a software like this.
