look up "nesting" in the manual.
There was software called EDIT MULE that did this...brought all the clips down to one track. But they are out of business.
But if you want it to be ONE CLIP...either nest as Michael suggests, or export a self contained QT, and bring that back in...it'll be one file.

digital rebellion's promedia tools has a "clean up timeline" function and lot's of other useful tools
Another way would be to export a self-contained movie, then import the resulting file into your project ... as one clip.

Don't use QuickTime Conversion.
File > Export > QuickTime Movie > Current Settings / Self Contained.
This will give you a 1:1 copy of what is on your Timeline. QuickTime Conversion will recompress even if you choose the same codec as your source material.
