Q: How do I turn on file sharing on iTunes?

iTunes on my MacBook is saying that file sharing between apps is "turned off". I can't seem to find how to turn it on. How do I do this?

File Sharing takes place between an iOS app and iTunes on the computer. You need an app that supports file sharing. There is no need to turn file sharing on or off. What exactly are you asking about?

This explains how file sharing works.

The HT4094 article you attached above describes everything you need to know to "turn on" file sharing.  Check especially steps 4 and 5 of "How to copy files using file sharing" to see the apps and files that are able to use it.

Especailly look at the screen shot in step 4.

Well, I am trying to transfer documents from my Pages app on my iPad to my MacBook. When I follow the steps, opening iTunes and clicking on the apps tab, I scroll down and see all the apps that I can share files between. The problem is though that is says "file sharing turned off". I need to know how to turn it on so that I may transfer documents between my two devices.

Why wouldn't you simply use iCloud to house the documents on both your iPad and your MacBook?  Then the documents will be immediately available to you on both devices.

When you launch Pages on your Mac (assuming you are running the latest version: 4.3 of Pages '09), you will see a pop-up asking what file(s) to open.  At the top you will see "On My Mac" and "iCloud".  Simply click iCloud.

You have to be running Mountain Lion in order to sync with iCloud as described above.

When you are using Pages on the iPad are you sending the documents to iTunes? With a document open in Pages on the iPad, tap on the wrench icon in the upper right corner. Select Share and Print and then select Copy to iTunes. After you do that, select the format and sync with iTunes.
