My WIFI network shows in settings, and appears to be connected, but I have no WIFI icon at all and data will not sync wirelessly between apps on my iPad and iPhone.

Same issue, wifi is connected but wifi status bars are gone. It's useful to know a) how strong the connection is and 2) whether I have lost wifi signal - without needing to go to settings to find out. "was useful" I should say. Now it only says iPad Time. % battery. There is sad blackness where my wifi status bars used to be.
BTW, battery % status still shows.
I have the same issue with my Iphone 3GS, SW version 6.1.3, Wifi works fine but the wifi icon does not appear.
I have the same problem on my mini iPad. Wifi is connected and working but no wifi icon in the top left corner of the screen.
I have WIFI connection but no bars show at all and I can't sync apps between my devices.
